Rally’s/Checkers CEO Rick Silva shuts down a restaurant during ‘Undercover Boss’ episode
Rick Silva, the head of Checkers & Rally’s drive-in hamburger restaurants, was so horrified at the abusive tone of one of his managers in Homestead, Florida, that he broke character and revealed himself in the middle of the episode. And then he shut down the restaurant for the night, stunning the employees and shocking the manager, known only in show as ‘Stevens.’

This is AWESOME!

Not to be a spoiler, but Silva gives one of the employees $15,000 to help out with mother’s medical bills and finish going to school. Damn.

Here’s what I don’t like about this show: the CEOs realize, wow, these employees are real human beings! This one can’t afford to pay their mother’s medical bills and finish going to school! I’ll give them a bunch of money to help!
Does it ever occur to them that maybe ALL of their employees are human beings, and worthy of being compensated enough that they aren’t struggling with basic needs? It’s great that you’re forking over a few thousand bucks to one person, but that doesn’t change the fact that in every episode, we see CEOs acknowledge how bad maybe three or four employees have it, and isn’t that soooooo terrible, but they don’t seem to care about all the people who aren’t on the show and are just barely getting by. I would love to see a CEO go on this show and say, “hey, I should pay everyone more and give them all more benefits!”

Fucking commentary, man.
